Joint Symposium on Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of College of Life Science, Wuhan and GSBM Graduate School, Helsinki

PREFACE

In March 2006 the College of Life Science of Wuhan University, China, and the GSBM graduate school of the University of Helsinki, Finland, jointly organized a symposium on Biotechnology and Molecular Biology. The College of Life Science headed by Prof. Deyin Guo invited eight graduate students of GSBM as well as the graduate school’s coordinator Dr. Erkki Raulo to Wuhan University, where the symposium took place.

To exchange their knowledge and gain new insights, the graduate students from Helsinki as well as nine of the 40 participating students from Wuhan gave detailed presentations about their research projects and discussed those among each others. All presenting graduate students from Wuhan and Helsinki were selected based on the quality of submitted abstracts.

Besides the scientific program, Wuhan University organized an extensive cultural program for the visitors from Finland.

This Symposium provided a good opportunity for everybody to learn more about each other’s science and culture and to make friends “on the other side of the world”.

The Symposium was the second in a series of jointly organized events of Wuhan University and GSBM. In 2005 GSBM invited 20 Chinese students to a summer school in Helsinki which will again take place in August 2006.

Thank you very much to all Chinese students who hosted the Finnish visitors so kindly and warmly.
Special thanks to Miss Wen Ye and Dr. Erkki Raulo for their organizational efforts for the symposium and to Miss Geng Jing for her editorial work on this website.
