Message from the Dean

As the dean of the College of Life Sciences (CLS) at Wuhan University, I would like to welcome you to our website. I hope this site provides you with a complete picture of the organization of the college, and its faculty and research. I also encourage you to continue to check our site regularly for updated information.

The CLS has a long history which can be dated back to 1893 when the university was founded. The current name has been in use since the Department of Biology merged with the Department of Virology and the Center for Biotechnology in 1992. The college currently has 163 staff members (including 46 full professors), ~600 graduate students, and ~700 undergraduate students. The college offers interdisciplinary programmes which integrate traditional collegiate subjects with modern biological and biomedical subjects. The college also enjoys its state-of-the-art facilities, including the first biosafety level-3 laboratory in Chinese universities and one of the best mass spectrometry facilities in China.

In its long history, the college has earned a reputation as one of the top life sciences colleges in China. As the life sciences are progressing rapidly, the college is continuing to evolve and develop. We are aiming to create a center of excellence both in teaching and research nationally and internationally. Our highest priority is to recruit the best young people including the brightest students at various levels and creative young investigators who are talented in original and cutting-edge researches.

Thank you again for visiting our website. If you have any comments, suggestions, or questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

By Hong-Bing Shu, dean of the College of Life Sciences at Wuhan University.
